Sunrise (Entry 11)

Being a night owl makes it difficult to catch a sunrise, so the rare moments in which I am able to observe such a beautiful sight are greatly appreciated. When I first woke up, there were no signs of the sun, and the only lights that were visible were the headlights that passed my window as I started my daily routine. When I got into my car, the black void in the sky was slowly beginning to give way to the blue of a new day, and the natural world was beginning to emerge from its slumber.

I made my way underneath the recently constructed Clearfork bridge, and I looked to the east in anticipation of the bright orb that gives life to our world. Within minutes of my arrival, the sun began to poke out from below the horizon, and the sky became a magnificent mixture of grays, blues, and oranges. There were a few clouds that were attempting to block the sun's rays as it moved further up into the sky, but the light moved through and around these clouds to create a positive and hopeful message to start the day.

As the sun was rising, it was clear that I was not the only creature to marvel at this daily miracle. The birds began to sing as it became clear that the night was over, and even a few joggers that passed noticed that I was looking at the sunrise and gazed upwards to gather some emotional warmth for themselves as well. This audience was likely often confronted with the beauty of the sunrise as part of their daily schedule, but I was sure that their appreciation of the scene's allure was no less than my own.

I am unsure what component of the sunrise contributes to motivation, but after taking the time to take in such a wonderful sight, I felt as though I was excited to take on the many tasks that I had planned for the day. Sunlight is the source of every ounce of the earth's energy, but I was still somehow surprised to find that it had invigorated me so much. If nothing else, this energization reminded me of how dependent I am on the cycle of sunrises and sunsets, and it also taught me once again that there is no basis to view myself as existing in a manner that is not as impacted by nature as any of its other parts.
